This week, the most recent acquisition of medical equipment by the Guatemalan Social Security Institute for its cardiology areas with technical support from UNOPS will be announced.
Guatemala, February 15, 2022. Next Friday, February 18, the training event will take place: High-tech echocardiographs for IGSS affiliates and rights-holders, organized by the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) together with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), through the INFRAIGSS Program, where the most recent equipment for the area of cardiology, acquired by the Institute, will be announced.
A total of ten new state-of-the-art echocardiographs were acquired by IGSS with the technical support of UNOPS, which allow the modernization and upgrading of the cardiology and radiology areas of different medical units and enable medical specialists to have state-of-the-art inputs that make assessments and diagnoses easier and faster.
The activity, which is expected to include medical specialists from various entities in the country, such as the Aldo Castaneda Foundation, UNICAR and the Guatemalan Cardiology Association, among others, will include three interventions. The first will by cardiologist Julio César Lopez de la Vega, who will speak about the situation and current challenges in the IGSS area of cardiology. The second lecture will be given by Argentine cardiologist Jorge Lowenstein, who will address the topic: Practical use of the strain: are we approaching the truth of heart function assessment? The third intervention will be made by the manager of General Electric cardiovascular products, Gina Garcia, which will refer specifically to the technology of the equipment acquired by IGSS and its use.
In addition to the training activity, all IGSS personnel who will operate the new echocardiographs are being trained on how to use them.
INFRAIGSS is the IGSS implementation program of the Second Phase of the Plan for Modernization and Expansion of the IGSS Hospital Infrastructure and Services, which includes the design of the High Complexity Hospital in Zone 11 and the Hospital Arrivillaga and the design and construction of the Hospital Regional de Oriente in Zacapa (with 203 beds), its equipment, acquiring ambulances, and updating the technology infrastructure of the Institute, in order to expand and improve the coverage and care for its rights-holders and members.
