The SIGO platform, developed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), to be used in infrastructure projects of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute in Guatemala, was presented to the staff of the Institute.
Guatemala, May 11, 2021. Personnel from the Planning and Development Sub-administration and the Institutional Infrastructure Department of the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS), as well as contractor representatives, learned about the SIGO platform, a technology solution developed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to be used in IGSS infrastructure projects implemented by UNOPS.
Currently, IGSS is implementing Phase 2 of the Plan for the Modernization of its Hospital Infrastructure in order to meet the challenges of the Social Security. This second phase is being developed with support from UNOPS through the INFRAIGSS program aimed at the design, construction, equipment, and technology modernization of IGSS hospitals, at the national level.
The Work Management Information System (SIGO) is a platform that allows having information of the construction projects for their follow-up and managing the works in an interactive way and in real time. The platform allows linking content fed by site engineering using digital and intelligent forms, centralizing information inputs, enabling automated reporting and submission to stakeholders.
The presentation was made by Fernando Rodriguez of the UNOPS office in Costa Rica, developer of the tool that has already been successfully used in various projects in that country.
At present, SIGO is being implemented in the building projects of the Civil Works, Data Center, and Urbanization Department, for the installation of temporary modular IGSS COVID-19 units in zone 11 and Escuintla, Guatemala, within the framework of the INFRAIGSS program. The objective is to improve the follow-up and management of the construction processes of these works, allowing interactive consultation in real time from a web application and/or from a mobile app with access to a summary of all the information.
The INFRAIGSS program includes the design of the Hospital Complex of Zone 11 and the Hospital Arrivillaga in Zone 5 of the capital city, the design and construction of the Hospital Regional de Oriente in Zacapa (with 203 beds) and the High Complexity Hospital (with 300 beds) in Zone 11 of the capital city, equipping these hospitals with state-of-the-art medical supplies and adequate furniture; acquiring ambulances; and modernizing the technology infrastructure in order to expand and improve IGSS coverage and attention to its rights-holders.
These actions fall within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 9, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; SDG 16, Peace, justice, and strong institutions; and SDG 17, Partnerships for the goals.
