UVG and UNOPS Virtual Forum will present challenges and new approaches of public infrastructure in Guatemala

Guatemala, November 3, 2020. Next Thursday, November 5, from 14.30 a.m., the virtual forum “Approaches and Challenges of Public Infrastructure” will be held. It has been organized by the Department of Civil Engineering of Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

The activity aims to discuss the challenges in public infrastructure and the innovations being implemented to make processes more efficient, transparent, cost-effective, and resilient. It also provides a space for the exchange of ideas between specialists, academics, officials, central government authorities, technicians, NGOs, and cooperation donors on the infrastructure sector and its contribution to economic revival and other opportunities in Guatemala.

The forum will be divided into two major topics: 1. Infrastructure approaches, and 2. Thinking about infrastructure. It will include presentations by Mr. Trevor Estrada, head of country of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI); Mr. René Cortés, senior specialist in the transportation sector of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); Mr. Lucio Caceres, UNOPS regional infrastructure adviser and former Minister of Transportation of Uruguay, and engineer Otoniel Echeverria of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, and will also have as host, the Director of the Department of Civil Engineering, Engineer Roberto Godo.

This event is especially aimed at the public sector, construction guilds, chambers, and private sector, as well as professionals in civil engineering, architecture, and students of these careers.
